BREEAM Ene04 Low Carbon Design

BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is a widely used assessment method for buildings. This sets the standards for best practice in sustainable design. Established criteria and a scoring system are used to allocate credits under a variety of different categories.

The aim of Ene04 is to encourage the adoption of design measures, which reduce building energy consumption and associated carbon emissions and minimise reliance on active building services systems.

There are three BREEAM credits associates with Ene04:

Passive Design (two credits).
Low and Zero Carbon technologies.

We can undertake various assessments that form part of the BREEAM process to assist you in gaining the necessary credits to achieve the required BREEAM rating.

An Ene04 feasibility assessment will:

  • Identify your projects CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
  • Make recommendations on fabric first energy savings.
  • Investigate the Energy Hierarchy – Lean, Clean, Green – to determine the most effective way to reduce energy consumption.
  • Investigate all LZC technologies that are appropriate for your building.
  • Detailed analysis of the most appropriate technology including CO2 and energy savings, cost and payback.
  • Provide a comprehensive and clear report detailing the above.

Walker Energy Analysis has a wealth of experience providing LZC feasibility reports for local authorities, The Greater London Authority (GLA) energy assessments, and BREEAM compliance.
